KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY

This project involved taking a audio clip, whether it was music or a speech, and turing it into a kinetic typography piece, It taught me a lot about storyboarding and of how to use the program, AfterEffects efficently and how to problem-solve effectively.

PROCESS

challenges

The biggest challenge I faced with this project was getting used to AfterEffects--it was a huge learning curve for me and involved a lot of trial and error as well as watching online tutorials. Another issue was that my partner had a different version of AfterEffects than I did (she had cc while I had  cs5) and when we tried to share files, there would be so many compatibility issues so in the end, we had to import her segments as a video into the cs5 version.

We decided to do this project based on a TED TALK that hit close to home for us since we knew a few people facing the same issue. This talk worked perfectly as it was spoken with a lot of passion and emotion as well as imagery we could really work with. We were also quite inspired off of "To This Day" by Shane Koyczan,

Storyboards

one of my tasks was to create the storyboard and initially, we had a lot more animations going on. Unfortunetly, we did not have enough time to finish it all. This meant that we had to simplify some of the designs or come up with other ways of sending the message across.

We had a lot of trouble uploading and finishing up our project, mostly due to issues like slow upload speed and incompatibility issues. This has taught me to always make sure technical issues are accounted for or at least looked at first before starting on a project. We could have saved a lot of hassle if we checked first. However, we were proud of the final result and I felt like I learned a lot about creating good typography. Next time I make one, I plan to have bigger changes in fonts, a less distracting background, and more involvement with the screen real estate.

'MASKS' COMIC

A simple comic interpretation based on Shel Silversteins' poem, Masks. This was one of the first comics I have ever drawn and it was a great learning experience as it tested my creativity of interpretation and also laying out comics.

This comic is an interpretation of Shel Silversteins popular poem, 'masks'. I decided to put my own spin on it and used colors to represent the hidden, true self (blue) with the red colors (representing the mask they put on). I liked how the poem was very open ended and wanted to keep that motif in my comic so I did not add any explanations to what was going on. For me, this project allowed me to experiment with the power of color and the impact of image and text working together.
